a Designer

I start with a set of rules, a timeline, a problem. First I define the problem visually through exploration and sketching. This solution then sets the direction which in turn presents the opportunity which then manifests itself in both real and virtual executions.

As an artist, I take all this, tear it apart and build something completely new.

a bit about me.

biography

I am a self taught illustrator, graphic designer, musician, and artist. I have a wonderful wife and daughter who mean more to me than anything else. I am the son of sculptor, painter, and educator, Paul, whose influence over me as a creative pushed me to never stop asking questions; to never stop challenging success with something better.

From 2003 - 2008, I owned and curated a small art gallery called Genuine Imitation. It was my objective to consistently present work that challenged conventional definitions of what art should and could be.

philosophy

I believe that good design and how we react or interact with it is the cornerstone of success.

Design is an emotional connection we create with our audience. That connection is both finite in it’s ability to sustain the emotion and in the voice in which it communicates it. As a designer, I tell stories through line, shape, and color in order to stimulate that connection between the idea and the subconscious.

The challenge is to do this using the rules set forth by the problem. There is always opportunity to bend or break these rules, but knowing when to do so is the difference between a good designer and a great one.

In the 10 years of doing freelance work, I've managed to learn a few things. While a lot of what I have done is confidential, I can show a few select pieces to wet your appetite. I have a hardbound book that I self-published that contains much more. Please contact me to view it.
